Cycle testing is conducted on products to verify functionality and to confirm durability. Cycle testing the products with a specified in-arm video cable is intended to show that the product can withstand service wear loads, modeled by 35,000 full deployment cycles, without causing a short circuit or loss of video-cable continuity. All cycle tests are conducted in the S&S Numerical Control test facility. Product deployment testing is separated into three phases as follows:
165-Degree Main Pivot – This test consists of rotating the arm around its main pivot (165 degrees). The arm is set to cycle from the stowed position to the fully deployed position (165 degrees), typically at a rate of 30 CPM for 30,000 to 40,000 cycles. The arm and the cable are then inspected for damage. If everything is intact, the second phase of testing is begun.
90-Degree Vertical – The second phase of testing consists of rotating the arm 90 degrees around its vertical axis. The same cable used in the pivot test remains in the unit. The arm is rotated for 30,000 to 40,000 cycles. The arm and cable are re-inspected fully.
60-Degree Horizontal – In the third phase of testing, the arm is tilted 60 degrees around its horizontal axis for a specified number of cycles, typically 35,000. Then unit and the cable are again inspected thoroughly and the final test report is prepared.
